On August 27th, 2006 two year old Trenton Duckett was reported missing by his mother, Melinda Duckett. The only evidence, a screen window in the bedroom Trenton was in was cut. An amber alert was issued and bloodhounds called in to assist with the search but nothing was found.
At first glance it appeared to be another case of a custody dispute gone bad and initial suspicion was pointed at the father and estranged husband, Joshua Duckett. Allegedly, Josh had sent Melinda a threatening email from his myspace account saying he was going to kill her and Trenton. He denies ever sending such an email. When police went to analyze his computer, it could not be found. Police interviewed Josh however and felt he was being truthful. He took a lie detector and police were satisfied with the results.
Joshua Duckett told the news media that he had not seen his son since June 2006 and made a public plea saying, "Whoever has him, please return him safe. I love him to death. He's my pride and joy, and I just want him returned safe." He also said he was doing everything he could to help police and cooperating fully with their investigation.
As police continue their investigation, Melinda Duckett refuses to take a polygraph test which although is not an indicator of guilt, certainly makes police start to question why she won't take one. As police start to piece together a timeline of events, it becomes a possibility that Trenton could have actually gone missing up to two days before he was reported missing because the only person who could verify seeing him since he was picked up at daycare on the 25th of August, was his mother Melinda.
On September 8th, 2006, only 24 hours after her interview with Nancy Grace, Melinda Duckett takes her own life leaving behind 3 suicide notes that can be found here and will also be discussed in more detail in another post. Her suicide certainly leads many to believe that she was overtaken with guilt and had harmed Trenton. I was initially one of those people but after reading more about the events leading up to Trenton's disappearance, now I am not so sure.
In the second part of this post I will go over events that happened leading up to Trenton's disappearance as well as include documents where Joshua Duckett made accusations against Melinda Duckett and then later recanted them claiming his mother made him do it. Josh Duckett and his mother, Carla Massero went out of their way to make Melinda's life hell and it could be that she committed suicide because she could not handle the pressure put upon her by Josh Duckett, his mother, and then the attacks and accusations made by Nancy Grace or she could be guilty. In the meantime please check out http://duckettbucket.blogspot.com/ there is a plethora of information there that is extremely hard to ignore or dispute that may just have you rethinking exactly what you think you know about this case and what could have happened to Trenton Duckett.
